Roberta Young '43 regrets that she was not able to attend the Annual Alumni Luncheon, and will miss seeing all of her good friends.  She and her sister Mary Young '42 both enjoyed getting reacquainted with area alums at the 200th Reunion this June.

Bridgton Academy is saddened to report the passing of Anthony F. Savignano '54 of Shelton, Connecticut.

Carol Wenmark '54 sadly lost her husband this past summer. She writes to BA that she has plans to possibly travel to Brazil this winter, "I have felt my spirits lift and have spent time lately with new pursuits and interests."

At the age of 76, Fred Locke '56, a retired Senior Customs Inspector, recently tested for his purple belt in Karate. The oldest member of the 1,000 student club, Fred still competes in 5 and 10k races. He has placed first in seven races, and second in another in the 70+ age group. Though he no longer runs marathons, he ran seventeen in the past, including the Boston Marathon in 1977. In 2007, Fred set two records in the WA State Senior Games in both the 500 and 200 yard swims, but unfortunately his records were broken last year. In addition to his active, athletic lifestyle, his happiest times are when he spends time with his grandchildren, who he babysits at least twice a week.

Richard Lynch '56 of North Andover, Massachusetts visited campus in September with his wife Laurel.  He had never been back to BA, but describes it as "the best year of my life." Richard recalled lots of great stories including breaking the picture window in Cleaves Hall, playing on the football team, and making trips to North Conway.

BA Hall of Fame member Dick Ernst '57 is now in his second season as coach of the girls hockey program at LaSalle Academy in Providence, Rhode Island.

Ken Greenberg '58 is semi-retired but stays very busy with his work advocating for people with development disabilities in Charlotte, NC. "I recently was elected Chairman of the Human Rights Committee in Mecklenburg County, and vice-chair of the Family Advisory Board, Quality Management Team of Area Mental Health, and the Ethics sub-committee for the Services Providers Council. I would love for any BA alumni who have had success as disabilities advocates to contact me. I can use as much help as I can get!" Ken can be reached at kgreenberg1977@bellsouth.net.

Jim Watkins '59 (center) receives his BA diploma 49 years after he graduated. Former headmaster David Hursty told Jim that in order to get his diploma he would need to complete his outstanding work. After submitting an essay to the headmaster, Jim was presented with his diploma by fellow '59 graduates George Mullin '59 (left)and Peter Margraff '59 (right).

Bridgton Academy is saddened to report the passing of Dr. Jonathan B. Welch '61 of Scituate, Massachusetts.

Steve Finn '66 of New York writes that he is now retired and "beginning to enjoy it."  He is a member of the Rochester Corvette Club, and enjoys cruising with fellow Club members. Steve recently took a trip to Bowling Green, Kentucky to tour a corvette plant. After his wife retires this June, the Finn's plan to relax, travel, and enjoy their children and grandchildren. "Keep up the good work BA!"

Jan Gebo '67 was honored this year with his induction into the Massachusetts High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame. After attending BA, Jan went on to graduate from Springfield College. He has spent over three decades coaching football at Westboro High School, during which time he accumulated 137 wins, and seven league championships. He has been named Coach of the Year six times.

Peter Stebbins '67 and his wife visited campus this fall during Parent's Weekend and met with Headmaster Grady Vigneau. Peter was involved in the Outing Club at BA, and, following graduation, his family created the Stebbins plaque to recognize the student most involved in the Outing Club.

Peter McMullen '67, a resident of Ontario, Canada, traveled to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina this Valentines Day to compete in the annual Myrtle Beach Marathon. Peter, who walked the ½ marathon, finished the over thirteen-mile trek 1902nd out of 2847 in a personal best time of 2:26:10.


Ray Hartnett '68 ran into Coach Tom Austin this summer at the Park Lunch in Newburyport, Massachusetts. Mike Doyle '67, owner of the popular sports pub, joined Ray and Coach Austin for a "trip down memory lane." Ray lives on the south coast of Massachusetts along with his family, and is doing well. "I remember my Bridgton days fondly (except for running up that hill after late summer practices,) and enjoy bumping into Wolverines of all ages."

Bridgton Academy is saddened to report the passing of Peter Macaulay '68 of Plymouth, Massachusetts.

Tom Vannah '69 recently contacted Bridgton Academy in regards to admissions efforts in Florida. Tom graduated from American International College in 1974, and received his MBA from Nova University in Fort Lauderdale. After his graduation, he went on to spend thirty-four years working for Motorola in government sales and services. Tom and his wife, Lucille, reside in south Florida.




David Sinclair '70
recently wrote that he thinks Bridgton Academy is doing a fantastic job.  When he was at Bridgton Academy there were only 125 students both juniors and seniors as opposed to 191 post-graduates.  "Bridgton made the difference with me getting through college or not.  Thank you for all that Bridgton does for young students."

Dr. Richard Lindstrom '70 and his wife, Carmen, stopped by the Bridgton Academy campus this winter and visited with Headmaster Grady Vigneau and Director of Development, Chris Harlow. This was Richard's first time back to campus since his graduation. The Lindstrom's have two daughters, and reside in Florida. Richard owns his own private practice, Psychological Stress, Inc.

Joe Hewitt '71 wrote that he was reminiscing about "old times" and BA came up.  Joe was on the football team and played golf during his year at BA, "I must say, it was an interesting time!"  He says that he made a lot of friends here, but has not heard from or about any of them, "we all just moved on."  Joe welcomes any contact from his classmates at jdhewittjr@yahoo.com. Hewitt and his family live and work in Vermont.

Stew Curran '72 visited campus with his son, Vincent, this fall. Vincent is interested in attending BA next year as a member of the Class of 2010. 

Keith Leonard '72 wrote to BA with an interesting story. Recently, he was trying to gather information about railroads for a close friend with terminal cancer.  The Maine Historical Society forwarded Keith's inquiries to Alden Dryer '61.  Alden came through with the information that Keith was looking for, and in their conversations the two found out that each was a graduate of Bridgton Academy. "In my view, Mr. Dryer made a special effort to insure that my friend received the literature.  It's extremely gratifying to know that after all these years, and although I have never met Alden Dryer, he made an extra effort to help out a fellow alumnus. There is so much more to the Bridgton experience other than academics and sports.  This, in my opinion, is one of them." 

Ed Molloy '72, CDR, SWO, USN. Ret. has spent the past four years working in Afghanistan and Iraq to try and bring about positive opportunities for local citizens. This picture was taken in Farah Province located on the Afghan-Iran border. "You should note the young men in the photo are no older than 21, and more more than 10% can read or write. Data tells us that the average man in Afghanistan has a life expectancy of 48, and a woman 49. Yet we fight to give them hope and the freedom to make a choice." Even after 57 years, Ed has strong memories from BA, and carries with him values taught by Mr. Goldsmith, Mr. Doucette, and Mr. Greason. "Thanks for all you do Bridgton, even if I seem like I forgot you, I have not, you are with me every day."

Henry Zussman '72 is enjoying spending time as the assistant coach for the Auburn High School hockey team. "One of my BA line mates Steve Mason '72 had gone on about the tradition the "Rockets" have. After moving around and returning to teaching, I settled close enough to be part of the tradition he spoke about. I must give "Mase" credit, he was right. For those who love high school hockey, the Rockets have 2 state championships…As I finish up my 6th year the team has qualified for the state tournament, and is made up of a great staff and kids." David Higgins III '76 was named as the head football coach at Greely High School. David was recently back on campus with his son, Chris, who is a potential candidate for the BA Class of 2010.

George Kennedy '76 reports that he was just promoted to a management position as his current employment, Quintiles Transnational in New York.

At the annual "Decato Invitational" at Paris Hill Country Club, Dick Decato '77 hosted a great group of BA alumni including Kyle Kenison '91, Shannon LaFrance '91, Steve Cummings '79,and Terry Edwards '77. Over sixty golfers played in the tournament this year.

Michael Loughman '77 recently sent an update to BA. Currently living in Massachusetts, Mike is married with two children, a son age 9, and a daughter age 5.  Mike is employed as a sales manager for Amphenol/Times Fiber Canada.

Bill Vaughn '77 contacted Joe Daley '77 to recommend a young man to Bridgton Academy. Bill lives in Massachusetts and works as a freelance sports photographer. He is married with children, and also spends time working as a stay-at-home dad.

Vinny Orlando '77 bought a bar in Gloucester, MA. He reports that he will be attending the Vault event, and hopes to bring some other BA alumni out for the gathering as well.

Congratulations to Dave Craft '77 who graduated Cum Laude on May 16th from Southern New Hampshire University with a bachelor's degree in Accounting & Finance. "The road was very long from the time I left BA to now as priorities change over the years from school, to raising a family, to building a career. The lessons taught at BA go with a young man for his entire life."

At the "Master's Sports Clinic" run and sponsored by Skip Bandini '77, a number of BA alumni were in attendance including Joe Daley '77, Vinnie Orlando '77, Tim Morris '78, Patrick Murphy '91, and Nick Markos '00.

Mike Blanchard '78 is currently the Head Men's Lacrosse coach at Emerson College. Mike currently coaches Pat Curran, the son of Tom Curran '78. And, in addition to this BA connection, Martin Nee '78,is the godfather to one of Mike's daughters. Blanchard is the president and founder of the South Shore Lacrosse League; a 48 team youth league for girls lacrosse, and is the president of Hull Youth Lacrosse.

Jamie Willis '78 regrets not making the Annual Alumni-Parent Hockey Game this December.  He is living in Seattle, Washington, and still plays hockey. In fact, Jamie reports that he still has his hockey jersey from his '78 season, #17! Jamie works as a promotion manager for Roadrunner Records.

Jeffrey Price '78 sent updated information to Bridgton Academy. Jeff writes that he has been married for twenty-five years to his wife, Jacqueline, and has two sons named Brandon (22), and Tanner (20). Brandon recently graduated from Westfield State where he earned a degree in Math. Tanner is currently attending AIC in Springfield, MA, where he majors in Education. Jeff has worked for 22 years at Marland Mold in Pittsfield, where he holds the position of Senior Designer. His weekends are often spent moonlighting as a musician.

Peter Winn '79 visited campus this fall. A union iron worker, Peter has worked all over the country.   He said he has nothing but fond memories from his days at BA. Peter had brunch with Grady Vigneau, Chris Webb, Phil Goepel '66, and Tom Austin.
