Student Interest Organizations Bridgton Academy offers both formal and informal activity groups for students. Among these activities are: the the Student Leadership Council, a group of students selected by the faculty to represent the student body during various school functions; the Big Brothers Program, in which students volunteer to mentor young children at various schools within the local school department; the Student Diversity Group, in which students participate in various functions throughout the state and performs community service in the surrounding area. The Stranger, the Academy's yearbook, was the first secondary annual in the United States, and students still design and publish it today. Students also serve as members of the Judiciary Committee and the Dormitory Council. Outing Club Bridgton Academy's Outing Club takes advantage of Maine's beautiful lakes, mountains, hiking trails, ski slopes, and camping areas. The Club offers recreational activities, such as white water rafting, hiking, camping, mountain biking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. Students receive outdoor training as part of the Outing Club program to prepare them for hiking on mountain trails, canoeing on lakes and rivers, or camping in wilderness areas near the campus. The Academy has its own large cabin on Stearns Pond in Sweden, Maine, with bunks for twenty-two students. Camping and sporting equipment is provided. |
