Peter Horne - Head Coach

Coach Horne graduated from Xavier High School in Middletown, Connecticut, and earned a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Georgia, where he was a member of the 1985 South Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association championship team.  He joined the Bridgton Academy faculty in 1985, teaching math, and coaching golf and cross country, and was named head coach of golf in 1989.  During Coach Horne's 23-year tenure, the Bridgton Academy Wolverine golf team has won the Maine Association of Independent Schools championship 6 out of 7 times since the league's inception in 2000, and has had many undefeated seasons.  In addition, Coach Horne drafted the actual rules by which MAISAD golf matches are conducted, and introduced the concept of a seasonal championship.  Many of his Bridgton Academy players have continued to play in Division II and III college programs, with some enrolling in golf course management programs also.

When asked about his coaching philosophy, Coach Horne explained, "Golf competes during the fall at Bridgton Academy, and players generally have refined their swings over the summer.  Because of this, I have my players focus on course management rather than swing development."

Currently, in addition to coaching his highly successful golf team, Coach Horne teaches calculus and precalculus, and serves on the Academy's Academic Review Committee and Judicial Board.  He lives just a mile from campus with his wife and seven children.
