2007 SEASON PREVIEW

Running head on from pre-season camp and into the annual pre-season inter-squad scrimmage, Head Football Coach Rick Marcella and his staff see their own prognostications coming to fruition. "We are very deep and talented in the skill positions, which is not unusual for us.  There was and still is great competition among the line-backing corps for playing time," he said.  "Unfortunately, we are extremely thin in both the offensive and defensive lines.  I'm hopeful that we can hold up throughout the 10 game schedule."

There remains a battle for the quarterback job that is as closely contested as it is watched.  Nick Haag, (Worcester, MA), Joe Romanick, (Slidell, LA), and James Suozzo, (Everett, MA)are all equally talented and strong-armed athletes vying for the two available spots.

"I think it's a win-win for us because any one of these guys will make us competitive on both offense and defense.  However, it's very difficult to slice one ball into thirds, and someone is going to move," said Coach Marcella.  "These young men all understand our situation along with their own strengths and weaknesses at the QB position, and they all maintain a healthy respect for one another.    Whoever moves out will still get reps as our emergency Q."

Also impressing the staff offensively were running back Edwin Gowins (Bellport, NY), multi-backs Jack Reynolds (Farmingdale, NY), and Josh Sundquist (Windham, ME), along with wide receivers Eli Hayes (Fairport, NY), Tim Wells (Abington, MA), and James Burrell (Richmond, VA).  Jason Foster (E. Pittsford,VT), Charles Baker (Milton, MA), and Justin Martel (Manchester, NH) figure to anchor the offensive line.

The defense has been strong during pre-season team periods.   Defensive Coordinator Joe Daley, a veteran of 20+ football seasons at BA as both a player and a coach, sees an aggressive and swarming unit taking shape.  "We'll be out to prove that size doesn't matter this year.  Football is the ultimate team sport, and our kids know that.  The heart of the Warrior is ready for battle," he said.  Already, a number of young men who, in any other year, would be starting linebackers, have made a successful transition to the defensive line.   Matt Linnehan (Worcester, MA), and Fran Archibald (Rye, NY)bring tremendous athleticism to the D-line.  Behind them are a slew of hard-nosed linebackers, including Brendan Moore (Camden, NY), Asim Hicks (Newark, NJ), and Mike Lacaria (Watertown, CT).  Among many talented athletes patrolling the secondary will be Dontae Roberts (Clearwater, FL), Thomas Nelson (Staunton, VA), Matt Duggan (Arlington, MA), and Marc Wilson (Farmington, CT), and there is quality depth that was missing a year ago.

"It's always interesting to see how things come together each year.  I'm eager to see how we'll react to the adversities that manifest themselves during the course of a game and then a season," added Marcella.  "I can't wait for September 9th to get here?outside of the fact that we'd like another 2 weeks to prepare!"
